Authoring Points: Views Please

Having watched a fair few Britporn dvds during 2005 (and 04/03/02) I am surprised by the different levels of useage of authoring points. (The markers you skip to on ff), Some producers hardly separate the scenes while others (eg Ben Dover) can have 30 plus in a programme.

Typically most Yank productions put one in as the foreplay finishes and the action starts plus another for the cumshot. This seems the absolute minimum to me, so why do other producers think we're still watching vhs and omit them?

As they're not rationed (afaik) why not put plenty in. It makes no difference while watching, and if you want to jump a scene it's only a double or treble click away.

Any views, thoughts or reasons?

You are right, it would be great to be able to skip to the good bits when you are 'in a hurry'.

Yes, I agree..there has been a lot of dvds like this. Vivthomas.com produced many of the dvds like this from 2001-2004. I made a suggestion to Viv and his team about this and they actualy did something about it. Since 2005 all the dvds are much better in terms of skipping to a scene at any point. The dvds however did already have the skip scene but not to the jump to any scene option which you can use on PC DVD players, Viv invested a lot of money in getting a new authering programme.
I found Redlight districts [uk] dvds also had this one problem not being able to jump to any frame of a scene. I'm not sure if they have improved on it?
Mostly the reason is the type of authering software these company's are using.

Tape doesn't stop and start wherever you want to.
One has to spool a tape.
Some dvd players can access any part of the disc by title,chapter or even by time.

I don't think the authoring software is the main reason for it.
It's more about the amount of effort that has been put into the authoring.
Even the basic programs offer the ability to place chapter/scene markers.
Because there is no technical difference between a jump to a different scene, or a simple skip (within that scene) it's just a matter of adding more.
