Just to clarify -
alt.fan.televisionx is the newsgroup in question.

alt.binaries.pictures.fan.televisionx is barely used by anyone except spammers.

Two different groups. Some ISPs don't allow posting of binaries to non-binaries groups like aftvx; so occasionally there's something useful posted in the binaries group, but mostly it's spam, when there's anyhting at all that is.

Assuming you are using Outlook or similar to connect to your ISP (Internet Service Provider), then you can use it to 'subscribe' to news groups. (This does not mean you have to pay.) News groups are message boards like this one, but they are not on web pages and some of them allow images to be posted, which can be done here only indirectly. The messages are held on your ISP's server, but, unlike this board, they are not held forever. I can't remember precise details and anyway you may be using a different version of Outlook than I used to use or different software altogether, but when you start the process, the software will download a list of news groups (there are thousands) from your ISP's news server (some ISPs take more news groups than others). You then choose which you want to subscribe to. The software then downloads the message headers and you can then choose which of those you want to see in full, e.g. by double-clicking on them. The software then fetches the body of the message, including the picture if any. Binaries are the attachments to a message, usually a picture, but sometimes a text file. Some ISPs do not allow you to read or to post binaries to groups like alt.fan.televisionx which do not have binaries in the name. Some like demon allow you to fetch the binaries but not to post them.

If anyone with greater expertise wants to correct or amplify any of the above, feel free.
