I used to buy from them ages ago and frankly "Fiona" could have announced she had a terminal illness and it wouldn't have evoked a sympathy purchase.

I disagree. "Fiona Cooper" was set up as if she was a real person, the catalogues were always going on about her life and family etc. Now we even have an imaginary daughter taking over the business, and all the time the business was being run by a seedy bloke who tried to shag every model he lured to deepest Yorkshire. It went much further than just being a trade name, and frankly seems rather distasteful once you know the truth.
