hi

rather than going to the shops i've thought of downloading a DivX off of site (pay)..

how big are the download sizes (they never tell you) and is it worth it? which is a good site for this?

Size depends on the size of the original file and how it has been compressed, but an hour and a half of DVD quality can be compressed to 700Mb at Home Theatre quality presets quite easily.

I would suggest having a look at for the file sizes and quality it is capable of. Should help you make your mind up.
