Anthrax screening rumour

There is a rumour on the RAME forum that the equipment being brought in by US mail authorities to protect against anthrax may damage or even wipe VHS video tapes.

Is there any truth in this? It sounds pretty far-fetched, as the big American mail order firms (porn and non-porn) would surely know about it and take some action

I doubt it. I don't see how the kind of equipment you need to detect spores of a disease would wipe vhs tapes when X-Ray machines don't.

It is probably a scare story, but the equipment is not meant just to detect anthrax spores, but to KILL them, using electron beams or something like that.

I just thought that someone who has business connections with American suppliers might know the full story.
