I think anyone who succeeds so well in life to fulfil their aim, which they truely believe to be correct, should be respected. She truely believed what she was doing was for the good of the nation. OK she lived in a Mills and Boon fantasy land, but atleast she did not really hurt anyone or gas anyone for that matter.

The similarities between the Taliban and Mary Whitehouse, both tried to limit a certain pleasure(s) from adults. Both used religion as a justification of their views. And the arses who gave them power are as much to blame.

Mary Whitehouse tried to stop most sex ('to protect the children'), if she wanted to protect them why didn't she just cut out there eyes? At least the Taliban tried to stop robbery by cutting peoples hands and feet off(how the state can justify any atrocities is amazing). Is censorship in any way like cutting peoples eyes out?

sense at last! its amazing just how blind people can be. if that woman had her way and many like, we would all be living a very different lives. she wished to "dictate" what i could/should be watching and given the power thats what she wouldve done. i stand by my comparison as she was a person who genuinly belived she was right to change the world to her beliefs and so did hitler. the price of democracy is eternal vigilance. its sad that some of you cant identify a threat to freedom just because she never achieved her aims or because she was a little old lady.
