Vidshop with help of Dave have now settled my outstanding debt. The package with 2 dvds arrived from the Netherlands. On the package was a yellow sticker -
'Customs Examination The Post Office in the United Kingdom opened this package for examination by Customs and have resealed it'.
A white insert in the package said
'HM Customs and Excise We chose to have your letter/packet opened by the Post Office as part of our selective checks for prohibited goods which are sometimes concealed in letter mail. This is the only reason it was opened and we assure you that the privacy of correspondence is always respected. The law requires the Post Office to produce to us selected postal packets and if necessary to open them for our examination. Authority for this is contained in Regulations 11 and 12 of the Postal Packets(Customs and Excise) regulations 1986. C36 IB(september 1999)'
The opposite side had address of Customs and Excise in Kent.
The Dvds had obviously been seen by someone (I noticed a partial finger print on the play side of one)
I wonder if they enjoyed 'Legends of Porn' hosted by Jim Holliday and 'Never Say Never to Rocco Siffredi'
(What a fantastic job that would be - seeing porn dvds all day!)
I wonder if I could sue for damage to my goods and violation of my privacy. The Dvds were loose in the cases (another reason to suspect viewing).
Dave I think said he was going to send them from the Netherlands (quicker delivery I think).
Software note: Legends of Porn seems to not play on power dvd 4 (it plays on older software intervideo WINdvd - not tried on my Proline 1000 player)
(also Proline 2000 player seems to play ntsc DVDs(region 0) in B/w - but the Proline 1000 plays them in colour! I suspect my tv should also be NTSC compatible (which it is not))

Same thing happened to me the other day with a vid from the Netherlands: just the white sticker, tho'. I don't mind if they get their jollies, as long as they re-seal the thing undamaged and securely: better that than bloody-minded confiscation.

I don't have a major problem with customs opening up packages. Stuff from vidshop is legal in the UK so we don't really have much to fear. Yeah, the invasion of privacy is an issue, and fingerprints on the DVD is bang out of order, but no body did anything wrong so to speak.
