Pornstars who don't use their real names...

I can understand someone using an alias if no one ever sees their face - for example, most people use bogus names on the internet and no one will ever know who they are because no one will see what they look like. But if 1,000's of people have seen your face, like in the case of a pornstar where everyone sees what you look like in your films and photos, then you can hardly remain anonomous by using a phoney name when everyone has seen you. So anyone who knows you will know it is you in the movies and photos as they can recognise you. Therefore what is the point of using a fake name?

Maybe sometimes it's just personal choice, to give themselves a more attractive sounding name... you don't come across many porn stars called Mavis, Hilda, or Gladys now.

You can stop the stalkers looking you up on the electoral register or through other means by not using your real name.

I think alot of the reason aswell is that most pornstars are portraying a character...having an alias helps you 'get into character' so to speak when you're working.

..And Ice T sounds a lot harder than Tracey Morrow (yes indeed) No self respecting hard core rapper could go around town with a name like Tracy.

The reason as some of you pointed out is for security and not being known for your real name plus it is an alter ego.

Not many of the people who do what they do for a living actually have sex like that in their private lives and furthermore if you knew the real names of some of the girls you'd know why LOL...and the blokes too

Interesting comments there. I can understand it from a security point of view - it would be harder to find someone's house if you only knew what they looked like and not their name - obviously - so weirdos and stalkers in society will have less of a chance of tracking down the porn girl they have the hots for. But from the point of view of it 'sounding better', most people have reasonable names. It shouldn't be anymore common in porn to use another name, just cos it sounds better, than you would in the music industry. Some examples of where it WAS a good idea to come up with a pretend name are (and I will list the person's REAL name here too): Marvin Allday is the real name of Meatloaf; Reginald Dwight is the real name of Elton John; and Paul Hewson is the real name of Bono (although that is ok, and could work as a pop/rock name). Here's a thing though, a music star wouldn't care if their real name was revealed on the internet, but I bet some porn people would. And dont forget you get weirdo stalkers stalking female popstars aswell...
