Movie downloading

Post by MR T »

Having read a few messages/threads recently re movie downloading, I wanted to ask a general question and the more responses the better really.
Whilst putting the final, final touches to Hannahs site, I wanted to ask what size movie file most people prefer. This obviously affects download time and if you've got broadband you're ok. At the same time however I don't want to piss off people with 56k modems.

So I put it to the forum - let battle commence!

P.s. bearing in mind that there is a limit on the site size as it is new so no silly suggestions like 3hr feature length porn movies. Besides I don't think anyone could last that long with Hannah at the helm(et).

Many thanks chaps

No problem to download movies of about 5-10 mb on 56k. Avoid zipping them though. You don't save enough on file size/download time to make it worthwhile imho.

To be honest I think the real question is Quality.
Which means its got to have sound and High resolution.

Minimum time 1Minute

I downloaded some mpegs from www.eurogirls.com a while back
large files by ordinary standards 10mb-12mb that took 20 minutes to download but only ran for 1 minute.

I have always found that with longer clips 5 to 10 minutes particulary played on Real Player they tend to freeze hence why i like shorter high quality clips.

I'm not a rich broadband user but I am paying less a month than when using a phone line. When I signed up with telewest I had to pay a month up front plus install fee total ?83, now paying ?25/month, average phone bill was between ?35-?40, a self imposed limit.

As a broadband user, I still find it frustrating to download a potentially good movie or clip only to find the quality is rubbish, so I agree with Mr previous poster.

In terms of file size, up to 10mb is fine for 56k'ers why not slip in the odd 100mb film for the elite ;)
