I didn't think fisting was illegal in the first place. But it's certainly not legal either. It could be obscene, but I thought that's the point, not specifying what is or is not obscene so it can be decided on a whim or as the legislators might say "by current community standards."

Even after the acquittal it definitely still isn't defined as legal.

it would appear that all the case means is that gays can do anything they like to each other, short of murder and the law wont touch them. Mchael Barrymore will be dancing a jig! However, sooner or later some arsehole making extreme straight porn will brutally fist a women in a movie, thinking, "Hey, so what, it's all legal like innit?" and find himself charged under the same Act, this time however, I can assure you that the jury would not be so sympathetic.

It's all about context, 2 strapping gays fisting each other may look brutal, but by its very nature looks consensual. You change the context to some great fat mysoginist frantically shoving his arm in and out of some cute young woman's arse, to a jury will look coercive and "Obscene", regardless of what even the model said in court. This is just one case under the Obscene Publications Act, the result does not mean the "End" of the Act. It merely means that in this particular case the jury found the material to be not obscene and I can see why, because when viewing the material, it was probably evident that any time in the proceedings, the "Victim" could have simply left the room or smacked the abuser in the gob and left.

"Obscenity" is all about context. I wonder what would have been the outcome of the case, if the abuser or fister had been a hulking great, leather clad biker and the victim, a young looking youth dressed as a choir boy?

I wonder if the jury would have been so good humoured at this?
