If regulars on this board were to form a club and pay a subscription to be used to buy a collection of videos/DVDs which were then loaned out to individual members for a limited period, would this be breaking the law?
To avoid death threats from film makers, the 'Syndicate' could agree not to purchase certain tapes(!)
If it WOULD be legal, is anyone interested in joining? Let me know!

Re: An idea....would it be legal?
It would be ilegal, even lending is distribution so it breaks the law from the start, If however you were to buy say 10 of each title I dont think any producer etc would care to much you lending them provided you did not pirate a copy,
If everyone in the group registered with me as a video reviewer they could claim professional status and it would be legal.
Idea !

Isn't this board now so full of trolls it's hardly worth bothering with? I can't think of ten people that I would trust here! No offense intended...

Re: An idea....would it be legal?
Video rental stores pay a premium price to purchase videos and dvds so that the film makers are compensated for the loss in sales. If you were to buy at a premium price then I doubt they would moan. What you could do to avoid the trolls is have it so that users would have to register for the service (this would also enable the initial purchase of the videos) via credit card then if they do not return the videos you can bill them and regain the money instantly.

Pardon my ignorance, but who/what exactly are trolls?
I have a rough idea, but would appreciate a precise definition.
And no 'mythical misshapen underground cretaures' etc, please.

The Internet Rough Guide -
"troll - prank newsgroup posting designed to produce an irate response"
by extension the person who makes such a post.

Hang on.
If lending videos is illegal, how come Blockbuster get away with it?
I think we should be told.

Blockbuster buy rental copies from distributers. If blockbuster rented sell through copies even they would breach their licence.
But the question was about 18R's it is a offence to distribute them except over the counter in a licensed sex shop. Lending is still considered as distribution so due to the BBFC law is ilegal ????.
