It is if you have a video linked to a DVD player - just press record when the DVD plays. Obv you won't be able to zoom, etc on the VHS copy!

Yes it is possible.

This website tells you how (if you look hard enough)

Also tells you how to take DVD's and copy the whole thing into a file you can put on other CD's or transfer to video (you need the right leeds and [free] software) FOR BACK UP PURPOSES ONLY OF COURSE....

In theory you put a scart lead from DVD to VHS player and press "record"..should be able to see the DVD image on the telly if you adjust it to the video channel....but those clever chaps who record DVD's often encript the info using a copyright protector called "Macrovision" which, if you can't remove it (some DVD players come with a "remove" button.. ) will mean your DVD's are recorded in Black and white, or with weird focus etc..
If you know a dodgy man in a pub, you can buy scart type leads which bypass this..hope that helps.

Or you just go here and you have yourself a healthy list of free software which you can decode DVD's with, turning them into other files after which they will be transferable to video.

Of course, I'm talking about DVD players on computers...

Yes, but beware. I bought a DVD copying software package and it records but without sound!

Well when I need to, I use 'Clad DVD' - it extracts and decodes the audio and visual seperately but you then use 'Flask Mpeg' to combine and re-alter the file.

It takes ages to do the flask mpeg bit (I'm talking hours and hours) but it's worth it if thats what you want to do. I think there's a complete 'how to do it' guide on the original link I posted.
