Am I right in saying that the only evidence of where you have been is either cookies or internet cache?? I use Norton system 2002, with cookie cleaner and cache removal.. is that enough or are there still files lurking in the well of my harddrive. it's useful as you can choose which site you don't mind tracking you.
On Gary Glitter.. he got done for posession but didn't actually know they were there?? Ie, they were in his cache and the sick fuck got done for going to these nonce sites as opposed to owning the photos?? Or did he just own loads???

Re: Evidence-eliminator
it depends on how hard someone is looking.
when you delete a file it's not actually deleted but simply no longer protected from being written over again. it could still be sitting on your hard drive for years afterwards.
even reformatting your h/d apparently erasing everything, will still leave some material undisturbed. what eliminator claims to do is deep clean those parts of your disk which you specify, to the point where even the fbi couldn't reclaim anything incriminating.
in that sense eliminator DOES do things that you can't easily do yourself - at least, not without being a technical wizard.
windows stores information on all of your actions in numerous ways. cache files/cookies are just the tip of the iceberg, really.

Re: Evidence-eliminator
Other tips include turning off system restore (your computer will automatically and without warning make ghost images of exactly what you have) and disable hibernation mode (again, if it goes into this mode, everything you have is dumped onto a file for nosey people to examine)
The trouble with EE is that you have to be able to know how to find the kind of files it claims to remove to konw if it works or not. If you want to make double sure you're safe, run eliminator, then re-format your hard-drive and re-install windows. I do that every month / 6 weeks.
Your ISP will still make a log of whatever you download so you're never completely safe, but what the hell.

Re: Evidence-eliminator
AFAIK there are also Registry entries for sites you've visited recently, as well as the dreaded Index.dat file that resides in your cookies/cache directory. This can't be removed whilst running Windows because Windows is always using it! You need to either boot into DOS and delete it, or find a utility that will allow you to delete it via My Computer. Personally speaking, I find it a lot less hassle to blame someone else
If you think this is bad, wait until your PC crashes when running XP. The first thing it does on re-boot is attempt to contact Microsoft and tell them what happenened!! Imagine that, Bill Gates getting an alert from your PC telling him you got a general protection fault whilst try to access www.analfarmyard.com. Then again, he'd probably try and take over the site and bundle it with the next version of IE

Re: Evidence-eliminator
ee deals with the registry entries, afaik - not sure about the index.dat though. is that different from the windows swap file?
i think ee does the actual cleaning business after it's secured the file and directory structures on your pc. having done that it reboots and goes to work in dos mode. if i'm wrong about this, i welcome any correction from more knowledgeable peeps than i.
re. your friendly isp - they'll get you if they want to get you, seems about the sum of it.

Re: Evidence-eliminator
I propose that the reason these eliminator ads are appearing is the failure of us surfers to visit the sponsors.
Think about it logically, these sites cost a small packet to keep up so they need sponsors to pay the costs.
Its great that sites are free but in reality someone has to pay.
The next time you visit a site visit one sponsor for the sake of the site.If you dont gentleman all you will be left with is second rate paysites and possibly Yahoo clubs.(I am not a sponsor or run a site just a surfing realist).
I would think the perfect example of this would be Oid.
He had a great site(still does if you know the address) but for financial reasons I assume brought in sponsors.(with a reformatted site)
Unless your running for politics, becoming a minister or are a member of the Royal family(harry what are you doing) who needs this eliminator.
Someone asks me what i did last night I will tell, surfed porn sites on the net.
Cheers

As if your ISP is going to knock on your door and stop you using there services. Stop us looking at porn and half of there revenue goes overnight.
Mind you if you are a sicko Gary Glitter type then you deserve all thats coming to you.
