Q. for the techies - joining vid clips

Help!!! Is there a foolproof way of joining avi.s either without converting them to mpg.s or after converting? I've tried using TMPGEnc then Camelmpgjoin but something goes wrong in the joined files.

If you have XP use the Windows Movie Maker, or use Google and search under "Easy Video Jioner"

never used it myself but peck's power join would seem to fit the bill.
