Doesn't sound either very fair, or rational, to me........the trouble with generalised views (as in that article you linked) is that they necessarily fail to take account of the diverse, bloody-minded individuals that society is largely composed of. We all have selfish, altruistic, conscious and unconscious motivations, usually simultaneously. Doesn't mean we can't function as members of that society.

That is interesting. There may be some porn viewers who live in this state of denial and refuse to acknowledge that the industry has a bad side and that is often not all rosy for the girls working in it. We have all heard stories first hand from people inside the industry regarding exploitation of models and indeed exploitation of punters by con artist retailers. Looking at the bad press surrounding the USA industry involving drug abuse, suicides etc it paints a bad picture. These unfortunate stories may create a sense of guilt in some consumers.
But the way I see it is that if we like porn then it is hypocritical of us to wring our hands about the commercial exploitation of women or the fact that the industry may add to the personal problems of some girls. Anyone who feels strongly about that should stop buying porn. Otherwise just come to terms with the fact that all large industries exploit people who work in them. Just to say to themselves "this porn exploits women but hey I dont care cos I like wanking off to it" would at least make me respect their honesty instead though they buy it then come on the forumn and purge their guilt by blaming Max Hardcore etc. The people who grow our coffee, bananas and cocaine get treated worse than porn girls to satisfy our tastes.
I once got lectured on the evils of porn by a female student. She had seen the Annabell Chong documentary and was horrified that we (men) funded the industry that fucked Ms Chongs life up (if it was the industry that did it) and yet this same student was using drugs regurlarly. She didnt seem so concerned about the exploitation of the impoverished South American woman who was probably forced under duress to risk her life smuggling condoms full of coke in to the uk by swallowing them.

I understand fully the reasons why people watch porn JJ. It's profoundly simple. Porn provides visual stimuli to cracking one off, that's all there is to it. If people watched porn for any higher reason Ben Dover videos would make reference to 'King Lear' to provide some light and shade inbetween the relentless anal pounding and Steve Perry's smarmy asides to camera.
My occasional loathing of the industry has nothing to do with moral issues, ethical concerns, or indeed the age old issue of explotation of the women taking part. It's purely to do with the asethtics of the genre. In short: it's ugly. A highly animated butcher's shop window. A modern day freakshow.

I understood that and I suspect your correct in your assessment of MWs motivation.
I just felt like picking up on that particular sentence he wrote regarding denial in porn consumers as I think it was valid and it set me off thinking of past arguements with the anti porn brigade and also the hypocrasy of porn viewers with feminist ideals. The rest of what he wrote was a load of crap of course.
