Just read it. Thanks.
Fordam swallowed the usual critics dictionary.
She was a Great Lady inasmuch that she could sit at a piano and sing a song - no re-takes, no mixes, no nothing. A talent she shared with Diana Washington amongst some others.
Ronnie Scott, who once introduced me to her(to my utter delight) never quite knew if and when sahe would turn up (she was a drinking lady)
I could go on, but I can only say:
Here is a very large scotch to a very wonderful lady.

Re: "My Baby Just Cares For Me"
i'd like to chink your raised glass with my own marcus, if i may.
i saw her twice at 'ronnies' in the early 80's and her performance was electrifying on both occasions. i saw no sign of the tantrums or diva-like behaviour she was supposedly capable of - just raw, undiluted soulfulness in full effect.
cheers!
