They're the police: they don't need tedious things like evidence, complaints and witnesses.

I am with Mart on this. It sounds like the sort of silly story you might see in the Sun. Jingoistic nonesense aimed at making us think our freedoms are being taken away by Johnny Foreigner. The police would have no power to ask someone to take down a national flag. Its bollocks. I have seen plenty of english flags round my way and even the local labour council are flying one on the town hall. The "ethnics" dont find it offensive but the tabloids probably wish that they did as would suit there agenda of telling us we are under seige.

And in any case the right wing nuggets hijacked the union flag not the english flag. So its only the union jack that is sadly tarnished by racist yobbos AFAICT.

The truth is that english people never bothered much about St Georges day. We are to lazy/laid back to get excited about flag waving. There are however many who wish that they were banned from celebrating just so they could have a good moan about Blair and all these "darkies".

a local taxi driver in my area was told to remove a usa and a union Jack flag from his black cab, by the local council, again there excuse was that it could cause offence.
to whom i ask?? if foreigners come to live in this country they wan't to be British don't they? they should be proud of the British flag. Don't wan't to sound like a SUN columnist but I can't help but feel we are losing our identity as a country of free speech.

I say if you've got the resources to fight the pricks

Tell them to stick it

A guy in Adelaide has been ignoring similar draconian laws for the past 20 years and when they get to court he always wins-because he knows the real meaning of the originl legislation

Many laws are strictly speaking illegal-but you need to take them to court and prove it

This removing flags has no chance of standing up in a court of law IMHO
