I don't think either profession makes LOVE
They make their living from having SEX
On the simple level there is no difference between what they do
IMHO the differences are minor ones
A prostitute working in a brothel basically sets the rules-she is in charge
when it comes to the punter
A pornstar on the other hand is really at the mercy of whoever is paying her.
As has been said a few times on here...if you don't agree to anal you will miss out on work
Of course a major motivation is money
I'd say there wouldn't be whole lot of people in society that would go to work for the love of the job if they weren't being paid

I am always suprised that so many of the guys who post here seem to think prostitution is demeaning and yet porn is not.
I had an email from someone who was saying how upset he was because one of his favourite porn stars was doing escort work. I really dont understand his logic. Its all sex for money. And in many ways escorting is preferable for some girls because they earn more money, they are not forced to work without condoms as they are in UK porn, and they can keep what they do private from family and friends if they so wish.
Theres nothing more annoying than porn fans who suddenly get all moral and start looking down there noses at escorts and twittering on about girls lowering their standards. Some people might think a girl who gives up porn in favour of escorting is actually raising her standards.....by being her own boss and not lining the pockets of producers.

Quite so, Magoo. I've only just seen this thread, and am surprised nobody until you had picked up on the suggestion that was implicit in the original question, ie: that prostitution is "wrong".
Most men I know have used a prostitute at some time or another, and buyers and sellers of the same commodity are surely on the same plane. We all prostitute ourselves when we work, and married women who don't work might just as well be classed as prostitutes.
So we're all just as good or bad as each other, and this question shouldn't have needed to be asked.

Yes, I believe porn is 'equivilent' to prostitution. And like others, I don't like the loaded implication in the question, as if prostitution is something to be ashamed of or inherently wrong. And who of us doesn't prostitute themselves on some level. I know that I prostitute myself when I work to a multi-national load of corporate fascists. Even if you're self-employed you're prostituting yourself to the structure of society, supporting the 'system' if you like.
I agree with Mike that it's a very serious issue, and arguments like" nothing's wrong with it if no-one gets hurt' are insufficient. There are great health risks in porn and since it's another branch of the same tree that includes street prostitution, I believe it is our duty as people who are consumers and therefore supportive of the industry to be involved in pushing for regulation and legislation of people who have chosen to work in this field.
These people do a great deal, and are worthy of support. These people are pushing things forward, and no doubt there are many other organisations that are worthy of support too.

Do not think its been said, but, you can also argue when does a prostitute or porn star 'do sex'.
By this, I mean many 'protitutes' do not have sex or even go topless. They get paid to whip and spank somone. Normally using the name Madame Zee Zee or somthing like that (probably called in read life Sally Smith).
Do you count FULL intercourse as sex. A certain ex presedent said that BJ's was not sex.
I guess you could also consider costs. Many prostitues I think would charge a LOT more than those making films, ie many advertise on the net from ?100 to 300 and more per hour. But many film stars quote ?100 to ?150 per hour (inc model release). In other words, its far cheaper to go with a porn star than a prositute and you also get to film it and sell the tape (ie make cash from it).
Also safty. I would think most if not all protsitues use concoms. Most porn stars do not. OK they may have HIV certificates (not 100% safe as you can get aids the day after the test and pass it on) but you could be carring other sex desieases. So from that point prostitues are clearner and safer than porn stars.
So which would you prefer your girlfriend to do? Be a porn star (few jobs ok money), and sleep with lots of men getting covered in spunk (nice thought when you are at home with her), or a prostitute (lots of cash and safe sex)?

My advise is get a camera (DV), and get the best you can afford, (3 chip one if you can).
At the very least put it on a stand and film it.
You can then sell the film (get a model release form signed) and not only get your money back from having your fun but you may also earn some good money.
Theres plenty of girls willing to do porn films, so what if one says no.
