Most of John Carpenters stuff such as Halloween, The Fog etc.

The first Elm St was OK too before the ridiculous comedy sequals spoiled it.

There were some great horrors in the early eighties (not referring to Thatcher btw) then a campaign by the Daily Mail and The Sun caused the Video Recordings Act 1984 to be introduced in a typical knee-jerk reaction and these so called "video nasties"were either cut or more often vanished completely. Several banned films such as The Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw Massacre have now been given certificates and seem quite tame. Its hard to understand why they were banned.

The Fog was a film that made me jump,and The Omen was damn good, but over the years, nothing really scares me film wise until I watched a video that scared the piss out of me. Ninth Gate with Johnny Depp was excellent, and genuinely did give me nightmares. I KNOW its a 15cert but something tapped into my psych when I watched it.

The Fog might have a lighthouse , but the film that scared me is about a video tape and if you watch it the phone ring's and tell's you ,you have a week to live .....i know it doesnt sound scary but it is late at night and your watching it alone .......
