The Art Of Porn

Post by joe king »

This set I post are an illustration of 'The Art Of Porn'. 'Art' is opposed to 'Porn' as if they are at the ends of some sort of spectrum. These pictures have features in common. Some have strong symmetry while others feature strong shapes with vivid colours. Basically I like them.

Hey Joe,
Suggest you get Trevor Watson's book. Talk about symmetry & artistry-whew!

Very nice, Joe. These just prove that porn needn't be filthy to be erotic. I'll now get off my pedants soapbox !, and suggest:

Pic BL11018.jpg - absolutely certainly Sara Bardot, popular in DS mags 10 years ago at least. Some spreads in GSP pubs. as well. This pic appears to come from a later GSP set.
Pic boob01222.jpg - absolutely no idea who this is!. Do you have an ID for her.

I guess the reason it's a little naive to seperate art from porn is because by doing so you take the position that porn is one thing... which for many I guess it is. The fact that it causes arousal is enough for many to switch off from any further critical evalutaion, and that is a shame but inherently British. After all, the difference between pornography and erotica (if you wish to seperate the two at all) is surely only the lighting... ?

My 'erotica' is your 'pornography' to quote Roland Barthes (quotes mine).

Erotica and pornography. I suggest (tentatively) that these are overlapping but not identical. Erotica is more to do with situation and build up of tension - will she, won't she as Mr McCavity once put it on this forum - but may or may not feature explicit nudity and sex. Pornography features nudity (soft porn) and/or explicit sex, but is not necessarily erotic. Erotica works via the imagination and pornography may bypass the brain altogether. But it's all in the eye or the brain of the beholder.

A different definition -
I remeber seeing a veteran French pornstar in one of those Marilyn films that Olinka made. I think it was the thrid one which consisted of out takes and stuff. This woman was being interviewed - she hitched up her skirt to show a little thigh - that was 'sexy' she said. Then she hitched it up a little more to show the stocking top - that was 'erotique'. Then whe pulled it all the way up to show her naked pussy. 'C'est porno,' she said.

Or that of the pompous fictional character who is Emmannuelle's mentor in the books - the sex act must have an audience to be erotic. Applying thsi to video, I don't think this would mean the viewer at home, but an audience in the video.

If I snap a naked lady and sell you the pic for ?5, it's porn. If I charge you 200 Guineas, it's erotica.
