Re: Mods = Bookburners?
Great book 'Catcher in the Rye'
You can't be serious about the Hobbit being a choice surely(even being the precursor to Lord of the Rings)
While it has great sybolism its far to simple to be compared to the above IMO
Now novels like 'Of Mice & Men' or 'The Grapes Of Wrath' have great substance that are easily seen in everyday life thankfully not today
cheers

Re: Mods = Bookburners?
The lesson to learned from boxer is that it alone we fall...united wel conquer IMO
That was a book from my schooldays that holds such powerful symbolism
i doubt if in a thousand years it will be irrelevant
To balance such disturbing tales I indulge in fantasy & science fiction
Ever read Magician by Raymond Feist(bordering on a scope as large as Lord Of The Rings)
Then theres Arthur C Clarke...from 2001 upto RAMA and counting
Extrordinary that many of the things that he has written about have happenend after his writing
cheers

Re: Mods = Bookburners?
Magician was good, though Feist's more recent stuff has been rather poor.
A lot of superb examples cited. Animal Farm (like 1984) was just too depressing; The Grapes Of Wrath would drive you to suicide; but Catcher In The Rye is a genuine classic, retaining its power and importance even 50 years on.

Re: Mods = Bookburners?
i removed your book post. mark it down as the cumulative result of having to dredge through the tawdry, witless, self-aggrandising, day-in-day-out, slagfest that comprises 99% of your current output.

I am sorry if my self indulgent celeb slagging humour upsets you (and Mart and Buttsie). I just joined in with Holdens amusing language which seemed a humourous distraction from the usual crap that gets posted here.

Re: Mods = Bookburners?
I think you calling me "witless" is a tad harsh. If you want to insult me then at least make it funny.
