Keeping the fave film theme with..
..thrillers. My faves, well to name just 2 out of many, are 'The Usual Suspects' and 'Blood Simple'. Is there anybody who DOESN'T think that TUS is just a masterpiece of cinema?

Anyone know where "the usual suspects" comes from?

Re: Keeping the fave film theme with..
TUS is a safe bet for any top crime thriller list I quite agree.
Mustn't forget Hitch - I'd go for North by Northwest, since Psycho has become the grandaddy of slasher horror flicks.
Blue Velvet also.

No masterpiece, sadly.
An entertaining two hours of shadowplay, yes. But empty.

Re: WHAT?
Can't agree at all with that. I think the film as a whole is superb and if someone wrote a book about this before we'd probably say it was unfilmable. Can't fault the film on any level meself from the acting, direction, plotting down to the writing. It also made stars of the actors much like 'Bladerunner' did. I don't think it was fancy, it just took thrillers in a totally new direction much as every action film since 'Die Hard' did

Re: WHAT?
Okay, you rate it highly and with good reason - it is an exceptional piece of cryptic cinema, but it struck me as an enigma wrapped around a vacuum. It certainly didn't give much to chew on thought-wise in the way that Heat, Eyes Wide Shut and Blue Velvet (which I'm watching as I write) all did. And all three thrillers of sorts, note. I'm with you on Blood Simple, mind.
