Two different songs. Gonna Fly now is the one that plays during his training sequence and is mainly instrumental and an orchestral piece. It reaches its crescendo when Balboa is leaping about in his naff grey tracksuit at the top of those steps overlooking Philadelphia.

Nor me, where I used to work out years ago, it was ALWAYS on the speakers, I knew it was Bill Conti (Wonder what they called HIM at school?) You're probably correct it was a philharmonic crew that 'did' it, but it WAS Bill Conti

I guess Conti did get some stick at school with a name like that. Unlike Tom Conti who never got the piss taken out of him.
