Re: Empire top 10 crime films
If we're talking courtroom movies, Anatomy Of A Murder should be considered. James Stewart in supreme form as a defending lawyer. Nuff said.

Re: Empire top 10 crime films
And the classic Bad Day At Black Rock---not a western, whatever its name suggests---with Spencer Tracy and a whole posse of hard men (Robert Ryan, Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine).
Touch Of Evil, Orson Welles and a weirdly Mexican Charlton Heston.

Re: Empire top 10 crime films
Golden Gloves (1940) Robert Ryan actually WAS a tasty heavyweight boxer in the amateur ranks. My favourite scene of his was the 'All-American' Colonel in Dirty Dozen where Donald Sutherland winds him up inspecting the Colonels elite troops............man, I'd LOVE to do THAT!!
