Ok, I was in my local earlier and got talking to a cash office manager about the ?2 coin. He SWEARS that the early ?2 coin (1997) which shows a slim Queen as opposed to the chubby one now pictured is the 'prototype' coin and worth upwards of ?25 each. We all scoffed, but after emptying our pockets and the gaffer checking his till, there was only 1 from approx 40 that was how he described. I have one with 1999 Rugby World Cup and a fat queen, but only worth ?2.
Is he a con artist OR is this for real? Im intrigued.

Hi Ace , the guy may be right Try Spinks you will need to do a Google for them , they are coin and bankote dealers. Even if they are unable to buy from you they will be able to confirm if this is correct. It is worth remembering that these things do happen, some examples are Silver coins were worth more for there silver than for there face value. That was in the days of Bunker Hunt ,Steve56 will have more details. In 1978 I was a cashier at a bank one day the Executors of an estate paid in ?250.00 cash found in someone's house, all in white fivers I drew this dosh out and took them to a banknote dealer in Regent Street got ?11.00 for each one

Ace. I was given a ?2 coin in the eighties(did the guy in the pub say 98 or 88?) years before they came out properly. I spent it as I didnt think it would become valuable.

Lads, this is a 1997 coin, NOT the ones with a dodgy middle. Im very sceptical about this, and at the pub tonight, Mine Host was scratting through the till at every sale to see if he could find another, so they are hard to come by which adds credance to the story.

Another get rich quick scheme
Absolute waste of time these days as everything is mass produced
Having said that I'm sitting on a few Stamps with imperfections that I expect to be worth a reasonable amount within a decade or 2 but its never going to rival winning the lottery
cheers

The ?2 minted for the Rugby World Cup had written on it's rim "Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants"
It's believed that some where struck with the I missing from the word "Giants". These are now a collectors item.
