'Cube 2' ?
I've never seen ITMOM myself, Elton. Didn't know there was a 'Cube 2' but then again i never knew there was a 'Cube' until i saw it on Sci-Fi a month or so ago. Just can't be as good as the original 'Cube'. I loved it's simple complexity. Yeah, btw, the guy who gets literally diced at the start is a hell of an opening to any film!!!!

Re: Event Horizon(@Steve56,Ace et al)
I love most 'terror' films whether it's in your face, psychological, gripping, understated, British 70's, Italian Gialli or whatever. I love almost all the films mentioned in this thread that i've seen and they are very different to one another. From King Kong to Event Horizon and everthing in between

simple complexity ..ummm ....i Like that it does sum up the Cube ,
Sorry to sound so twat-like about In the Mouth DC , but ive watched the film 3 times and i really think its shite ! My opinion of Event Horizon is much the same , Iam interested to watch it again if their has been parts removed
but on the whole Hollywood and big budgets dont make good horror , Sam Neil was good in the Omen part 3 (all the Omen films were good) but as he's gets older he seems too nice and middle aged to make scary films ,a bit like Alan Titmarch as Jason the friday 13th , i just wont work for me !
HP Lovecraft was an amazing writer (and an even better sixties band) but like Poe ,Wheatley and even Mr King what they write is chilling to the imagination and when that translates to the big screen it nearly always fails ...exceptions to the rule are The Shining but if you read the book you see how much Stanley Kubrick added to the film ,which in my opinion is still very chilling, unlike the book .The two little sisters and the feeling the whole hotel is just full of evil wanting their lives dead, and near the end old dead guests start to reappear and be seen when you thought they were just a part of Jack's broken imagination !.
Which brings me to the Daddy of all sci-fi Horror 2001 A Space Odyssey
forget the fx the music , Rigsby and the dodgy looking Ape's the concept behind this film still scares the shit out of me and its not the dodgy Arthur C. Clarke story, but Kubrick again using the HP Lovecraft idea that we were put here/evo-revolutionized by another intelligence that has left signs to teach us when our technology has evolved ,and in close proximity to these eerie humming monolith's even a computer intelegence becomes aware of its own mortality.....Dave ...Dave ...please dont kill me Dave.....

Re: 'Cube 2' ?
I have an excellent copy of "Cube 2 : Hypercube" on vcd if u want a copy let me know...its actually very good, not as good as the first but almost!!!!
Event Horizon was trimmed of nearly all its gore by the studio before the release, the director keeps saying in interviews, that one day he'll release a special edition DVD with the missing 20+ mins put back in.....
Goater,if u enjoyed Cube may i recommend "Donnie Darko" a total headfuck of a movie...after watching it i had to ring my mate to tell him that "I've just watched the best film of the year,i didnt understand it at all but it fuckin rocked"

Re: 2001
Don't sweat it, Elton. Much as Hollywood would like it, there's no law that say you have to dig every film, genre or whatever.
Tichmarsh as Jason LOL! although after the slice 'n' dice he could bury you under the decking. A least it would be tidy.
Written horror has the luxury of slowly cranking up the tension. That's hard to do in a film when modern (ie stupid American teenage) audiences some spectacular event every X number of minutes or they lose interest.
Not sure about 2001 as sf horror; it's sf to me, although I can see why you might not think so. Horror is meant to scare, frighten, disgust or plain old horrify. I think 2001 is meant to amaze & to provoke thought. We all have different buttons to push, I guess.

Event cut by 20 mins?!?
Interesting stuff. I think to hammer the films main horrible plot home the gore would be fully justified in EH. I mean they are supposed to go beyond space and reach 'Hell'. Hope so, Tez as it's VERY important to this film. I'll keep in mind DD for a view and i'll get C2 asap. Getting ready to get Captain Kronos:Vampire Hunter so my purse is going to be tight! Maybe i should go to a horror forum to get back in to pornos. LOL!

Dune - The Facts!
Taken from IMDB;
"Contrary to popular rumors, no 6-hours long director's cut, ever existed. The only "director's cut" of the film was the one shown theatrically; Lynch never had a hand in any other version of Dune.Lynch's original intention was for Dune to have been about 3+ hours long. To that end, about 5 hours was shot. This is also confirmed by author 'Frank Herbert' wrote in the introduction to the book "Eye". It would be impossible for a 6-hour version to exist and even a 5-hour Dune would mean the inclusion of many scenes never intended for the final version (for reasons of redundancy,etc.). It is only necessary to read any of the final scripts for the film to realize that there was never any intention of making Dune more than 4 hours in length at the very most: the script for anything more just was never there."
Personally, I hated it. It could have been so much more.
There was a remake in the form of a TV series that went on for a bit.
That's also available to buy on DVD.
