The central part of the Merseyrail network could be loosely described as 'Underground'.....like the District/Circle in London, it was built 'cut and cover'.

Yadda, yadda, yadda...

er... only two of your points concern culture.

The point I was trying to make is that this is the oportunity for the public to see the other side to Liverpool, a step ahead from the stereotypes and pettiness it still so tiresomely brings out in people.

Come 2008 - you'll see.

p.s. On Sunday, at the King's Dock, Paul McCartney played a fucking blinder.

Calm down, calm down Elton!

OK, there's a pleace near Liverpool called Waterloo, but you'd be doing very well to meet there and then cross over a fucking river! Whereas Waterloo station in London?

Please, I've read X-Ray as well, and seen numerous documentaries about Ray/The Kinks, including one in which he was standing on Waterloo Bridge (ahem, in London) reminiscing about how important that neck of the woods was to him.

Erm, and remember Return to Waterloo? Hardly set in a suburb of Liverpool, if I recall.

Like I said earlier, Ray's original lyrics were going to be about Liverpool/Merseabeat, but he changed his mind. The melencholy tone may well take it's cure from the Liverpool thing, but the lyrical are London based.

Er...Liverpool ....ER.......Merseyside........this mean's beside the river Mersey!
what next " You dont have Taxi's in Liverpool "

Looks like you could do with 'Reading' X-ray not just looking at the photies..

Ray has also played the Philly Hall in Liverpool were he told a packed crowd
' This one more about Liverpool than London you-know ' and guess what song he then played ?..... answers on a thimble the usual address

fu fu fu fu fu - fu fu fu ............ Mr Watts
(and what did you offer Ray for Dave?)

I'm perfectly aware the river Mersey runs through Liverpool (please, there's no need to insult people's intelligence!), but it's nowhere near Waterloo fucking station! Terry and Julie would be pretty shagged out if they strolled back to a bridge over the river from that particular station.

And good heavens - a performer ingraciating himself with the locals at a gig - whatever next!

The song as it stands is clearly set in London, even if it was originally conceived as a song about Liverpool.

Either way, it's a top tune, and I think we can both agree that the glory that is British pop owes quite a major debt to both cities.

As for my offer for Dave, why I offered my good name, of course!
