My homepage has been automatically changed to a porn search engine and numerous porn diallers tried lately to get onto my PC(including the ones with the dreaded German dialog box which gives you no option but to start the download after which you must rush to halt it).
There is no record of a dialler download on my download accelerator menu, just two attempts which I stopped in time.Does it sound like Im alright?
Cheers.
Have I been trapped by a dialler?

Re: Have I been trapped by a dialler?
Sounds like you have a problem!!!
If you're 'infected' with 0190-dialer.com (a very agressive dialer that keeps asking to be installed even after you clicked 'no') try downloading and running . This program should rid you of your problem.

Re: Have I been trapped by a dialler?
I have had the very same problem until recently.
My home page kept taking me to a rape site and sometimes worse(very disturbing). I have also been suffering with the German dial up.
My cure;
I uninstalled the program from my taskbar at the bottom of my screen again from the start menu and again from my desk top. Then I emptied the recycle bin.
I installed Norton 2003 and let it find the latest updates, then I let it do its job....It found 3 "viruses"...1 was not known and 2 trojan horses these were succesfully quarentined and my pc now runs fine.
I have know idea how I got these "viruses"
I hope you solve your situation.

Re: Have I been trapped by a dialler?
Well Ive been looking through the menu and conclude that I am probably alright. The last thing I willingly downloaded was the pop up stopper(the free version, which doesnt seem to work to well).Underneath are an MP3 that I cancelled and a 0% download rating on 5-2-125-18.exe which I would say is a porn dialler. It doesnt appear to be the 0190 dialler, which has also attacked my PC in the past.
Thanks anyway.

Re: Have I been trapped by a dialler?
Its always a matter of where the program has embedded itself
Deleting the desktop, taskbar & start up menu listings is scratching the surface
Nearly all dialers will also be in
Internet properties-connections
Program,Download or Dialer Files
The really insidious ones are almost invisible
Someone suggested previously doing a search for ie content through the start up menu-find-files/folders
When I did this sure enough a dialer was there but it was dormant
I deleted it anyway
Just be wary of what you delete in this section as it can effect other programs if you delete the wrong thing I believe
cheers

I have also downloaded the free pop-up stopper, this may have caused my problems.
Did you uninstall your pop-up stopper? Did this solve your problem?

Re: Have I been trapped by a dialler?
I will be deleting that bastard soon.Guess what-a load of porn sites URLs have appeared in my drop down address bar even though i typed nothing in it.Im not the only one who uses this PC.Cunts.
BTW an icon which leads to a site is occasionally appearing on my desktop.I think its being sent by the pop up stopper.

Re: Have I been trapped by a dialler?
I have seen this before! Some dialler software is VERY aggressive, as a now retired third level support analyst, I can assure you that some of the tactics used by diallers are highly sophisticated.
To remove a dialler that seems to have severely infiltrated your PC (eg keeps coming back, keeps replacing deleted shortcuts etc.)
Try this:-
You should be quite technical to do this, I cannot take any responsibility for any damage that you cause your own PC. Follow carefully
> Click 'Start'
> Click 'Run'
> Type 'regedit' then enter
You now have an explorer type system with folders on the right in a branch type system.
Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
AND
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
If there is anything resembling a dialler program in teh right hand window when you select the above folders it will effectively be re-installing itself every time you reboot. Deleting shortcuts etc will simply not work.
If you think you have a dialler program in any of these 'folders'. Select the item by clicking on it in the right hand frame and simply deleting. If you can see the path to the application, go directly to the folder it is located within and remove it.
WARNING: DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT!
Close the Regedit application and reboot. If you reckon you've blown it away, you should now be able to reset your homepage to something you prefer, any related shortcuts that constantly reappear should go for good etc.
Hope this helps.
