Seriously, if its a joint mortgage, you should be concerned. Get some FREE legal advice first thing Monday, and for what its worth, don't take advice from forumites, we mean well, but I for one would hate to give 'sound advice' and find out its screwed you!!

Get yourself a GOOD solicitor, guess I've no need to tell you that a divorce is a messy business.

Having been through it twice, watch out for her lawyer. If your wife is unemployed she'll probably be on legal aid so is more likely to let her lawyer call the shots because she isn't paying the bill. And don't forget every phonecall and letter rings up on the till.

In the words of Rodney Dangerfield, HIRE A HITMAN!!

Seriously get a fucking good lawyer, preferably a woman, and be prepared for a dirty fight.
If there is no chance of reconciliation then no quarter given.

If she's left you and the home, the first thing to do right now is to change the locks. Next, follow the advice above and get a really hot female divorce lawyer. Empty any joint accounts that you have, if she hasn't already done so. If you have kids, you have a problem.
I speak from bitter experience - Flett has been through this whole sordid thing, and it can get very ugly. It took him a long time to recover, mainly because he didn't get a good lawyer early enough.
Good luck.

This divorce business sounds horrible, I'm never ever getting married, I'd have an agreement with my partner legally binding but alimony and half my income, what? You know in France they make you list an inventory of who owns what BEFORE you get married. Lawyers are ALL parasitic scum, not so much barristers but solicitors arrgghh!!!! Divorce law is about the one thing they do well though. The really weird and creepy thing about lawyers, more of a barristers thing is that they think it's a really great idea that people around them should want to become lawyers or aspire to what they do. It's a way of rationalising the huge sell-out they have made of their lives, good money but still a sell-out.

On another tack, I hate the institutuion of marriage, it's ok for some but not for all. About three years ago an old friend of mine got married to a control freak bitch. She deliberately fucked up our eight year friendship, once ordered him back home when he was visiting me and turned him into a snob like she is. Just the kind of woman who WOULD have twins. It's not just ok to bob along and enjoy life, it's got to be about emotional and domestic domination which is just sad. My friend isn't 'allowed out' so I haven't seen or heard from him since May 2000 when I went to his wedding. What are you supposed to think having seen it before? Things they do look awful cold, don't they?
