Waterloo Sunset

Post by jj »

...just listened to the lyrics again.....no suggestion whatsoever that it was anywhere else but London ....and Davies WAS in London in 1964, despite what he may say........

Must of missed the previous post about this....but as you're talking 'bout my very favourite song of all time I thought I just had to contribute.

How Ray Davies manged to express the complex feelings I have for the city of my birth with such deceptively simple lyrics still amazes me....and when i found out from my mum that I was actually born at "waterloo sunset"....St Thomas' 7.00....it made my day.

Oh...and a bit of trivia you may or may not know....the names Terry and Julie in the song were inspired by Terence Stamp and Julie Christie.

....So was the topic that RD was thinking of some other Waterloo when he wrote this song? In Belguim perhaps!

We need to settle this once and for all, it is stopping me sleeping at night. I'll write to the Ray Davies fan club!
