Did anybody see the TV adaptation of 1984 after the doco? OK it was mid 1960s a bit slow with not great pic quality but strangley ok, staring Peter Cushing and also Donald Pleasance (!) as Syme. Pretty good effort really.
...and if you'd like some critical insight into what the book was REALLY about, try Anthony Burgess: possibly the finest intellect of the 20th century.

It's worth bearing in mind that much of the BBC drama back in the 1950s was done live. It might look a bit ropey now, but given the stress and strain all the cast and crew were under it was a fantastic achievement.
Ah, the days when the Beeb used to take risks. And produce quality drama. And employ the peerless Nigel Kneale.
