Problem :- saving pictures to my hard drive is taking ages when I've just downloaded them from the web. I use Windows XP Home Edition on a 1.7 GHz Pentium 4. I keep my hard drive mostly empty - achiving stuff onto CDs regularly and I've run the disc cleanup utility a few times but haven't noticed any difference.
I'm asking you guys because you're all so smart and good looking and probably spend a lot of time downloading pictures....of waterfalls.
All help appreciated,
Deano !
Slow picture saving.

Re: Slow picture saving.
What ISP are you using and how do you connect to the internet? Broadband is magic compared to a dialup 56k connection.

Re: Slow picture saving.
I would guess that its phone conection not broadband.
Go get broadband because:
(1) it is a LOT faster
(2) you can leave it on all day
(3) unlike phone up - you should never be disconected
(4) ?30 may seem a lot - but you can still use your phone while your on the net
(5) you can download films and songs, and photographs are instant(ish)
Why not to get it:
(1) you will feel sick that you never got it before.........

Re: Slow picture saving.
Have you defragmented you hard-drive recently? If it needs a good sort out that can slow lots of things down.
Just a thought.......

Re: Slow picture saving.
I'd disk defragment first....easily located...start...programs...accessories...system tools
Then I'd run a program like adaware(http://www.lavasoft.de> ) or spybot(the jurys still out on this one as to wether it increases spam to your email) to clear up any spy programs that have come with your downloading
Then I'd visit (from Lizards helping Claw)
and run an anonymous test-will highlight your systems shortcomings
cheers

Re: Slow picture saving.
Ah, thanks for the advice fellas. I didn't explain very well that the slowness was in the saving to disc rather than the downloading ( which is via a 56k dialup for the moment ) which I understand is slow. Some pictures save in a fraction of a second while others of about the same file size can take up to 20 seconds. Its OK, I'll get off my arse and look in Microsofts knowledge base pit of darkness for some advice. Wish me luck !

Re: Slow picture saving.
Every download has 2 sides..you could have the best micoprocessor and the highest level of broadband but the site you are trying to access hasn't
and henceforth you can't access it as you usually would expect
cheers
