I agree with your comments entirely, however I asked the very same question of a young lady who works as a Lap dancer.
Her explanation was that the style of shoe is far more comfortable than a normal stiletto (important for a dancer I would imagine). It would appear that the reason these shoes are comfortable is that they are well made and therefore not cheap. So they get clear perspex ones 'cos they go with any of their outfits and they only need one pair.
Still think they are hideous tho'
