Al Pacino

Post by Ace »

A few recent posts have claimed Al is crap, whereas some rate him VERY highly, such as me.
He's done a few duffers, but you can't ignore the mans delivery of lines. Forget Godfather that has been quoted to death, but check out the excellent 'And Justice For All' his closing speech in the courtroom is mesmerising. Also check out Magoo's sugestion of Dog day Afternoon.
Incidently, Heat which featured DeNiro as well as Al, only had 1 scene featuring them both at the same time.........having a drink and talking. The scene at the end features them after each other? Shot seperately, they do not appear in the same segment together, and the long shot of Al standing over DeNiro is a DeNiro stand-in long shot........watch it to see Im right

He's also superb in The Insider, if blown away by a superb performance by Russell Crowe. Dog Day Afternoon is a classic.

I am not a fan, I have said in other posts aboout if you've seen one film you've seen them all, but this is based soley on the Pacino films I've seen, I admit not to having seen "Dog Day Afternoon" and I have never even heard of "And Justice For All".

My point is proved fairly well by his performances in things like "Scent Of A Woman", "Devils Advocate", "Any Given Sunday" where he just seems to raise his voice or shout depending on your perspective and chew the scenery.

I will concede that in "Insomnia" he does take a very fine part, if some what over-shadowed by a superb performance by Robin Williams.

I however never claimed that he was crap just over-rated.
