People bang on about how great the Beatles were, yet, I think the songs sound old, and I never hear them played on the radio.
Yet, Queen, to me sounds fresh and not at all outdated. Other groups also copy Queen records. Films have used Queen records in there films. Turn the radio and often a Queen record is being played.
So whatever you say about the Beatles, I would say that Queen is far far far better.

Re: Beatles
You could make an argument for or against The Beatles, and for or against Queen. It's down to individual tastes. What The Beatles did was allow a lot of musical styles to be heard that might otherwise have been ignored by the BBC. You can argue that other bands were better, more creative; but you can't deny how influential they were. Imho.

Re: Beatles
Queen were an excellent singles band, but their albums often waned. The Beatles were an excellent singles band too, but their albums sent the world sideways.

Re: Beatles
How often do you hear Beatles on the Radio? Hardley ever.
How often do you hear a Queen record being played? All the time.
OK at the time the Beatles may have broken new ground, but thats it. The stuff sounds old.
Queen still sounds fresh. Listen to 1977's "We are the chapions" sounds still new.
The way I m,easure sucsess is what is being played years later. Queen is still played, many films use queen on there soundtrack. That to me shows how good they were. And lets face it, the Beatles were at the time a boy band (good looking, fashionable and so on), yet I do not think you could say that about Queen.
Paul (rich big headed twit) McCartney has only ever written one or two ok songs since then (I like the frog song).
I would also say Duran Duran were also great (songs still sound great), and have you ever watch the video "girls on film", its one of the best porn films everr made.

Re: Beatles
Directed by Godley and Creme of 10CC as well.
Pepper was over-rated but still had some stonking content. Revolver is their masterpiece.
But this is simply an opinion.

Re: Beatles
The Lennon/McCartney are famous for songwriting without The Beatles tag
You can't say the same about Queen
If the beatles sound old its only because Radio has played their songs to death.Other prime examples are The Eagles & Fleetwood Mac.
The only thing that counts is ratings and when they start to plummett the older overplayed music vanishes
Nothing to do with who sounds better than who IMO
One Radio station in Adelaide MMM about 5 years ago bucked this trend and started playing these older songs but in an unusual context...it included songs from the albums that the hit singles came from
There are some great album songs that unfortunately never see the light of day IMO
cheers
