Don't know if you can call it the 'best' but ITV's Mind Your Language takes some beating for sheer offensiveness.

For those who don't remember, it featured stereotypical foreigners ? uptight German, obedient Jap, womanising Italian etc. ? trying to learn English at a language school.

Example:
Language teacher to Asian pupil: "You're early."

Asian pupil: "No, I'm Ali!"

Top ten imho (in alphabetical order):

Cheers (guaranteed at least one belly laugh per episode)
Dad's Army
Drop The Dead Donkey
Fawlty Towers
One Foot In The Grave (ideal mix of bathos, humour and the surreal)
Porridge
The Simpsons (a cartoon can still be a situation!)
Soap (before it turned into a serious version of itself)
Steptoe And Son
The Young Ones
Pervert
The Worlds Biggest Collector Of Ben Dover DVD`s
Koppite Till I Die
Remember - You`ll Never Walk Alone

For American sitcoms then The Simpsons is up there as one of the greatest programmes ever made.

Re: Barry Evans

This is true.................
Barry Evans was a taxi driver in the latter part of his days and lived in a small pissy town near to where I live. 'The Lads' happened to get Barry on a regular basis for trips from the barracks to town and used to do 'runners' (as you do) On one night after a 'scarper' they were shocked to discover a few days later Barry had died on the night they did a bunk and were questioned as a routine, but the word was his heart gave out due to high blood pressure........it made a few lads think they might have contributed by cab fare dodging. They were all exonorated, but did pay future taxi fares and even tipped out of a guilty conscience
The West London of my youth is now on dvd

I've met the man on the street............and he's a cunt
