Ginger Baker of Cream was the best.
Led Zep's John Bonham was not far behind.
Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience also deserves a mention as i bet no one else has said him. He's a very underrated drummer, could play rock, jazz, blues, anything.
Best Drummer
Re: Eric Singer and Carr
Nice to see the late Eric Carr mentioned, a phenominal banger of the skins, he used to bang them as if they were about to jump up and attack him. Saw him 3 times and he really gave the band KISS a kick up the arse!!

Yep gotta agree there Onan, live versions of Moby Dick are the only proof you need

& it's called Wish you were here"

Re: Best Drummers
Yeh I agree about Tommy lee, He was awsome till the Dr Feelgood album/Greatest Hits period but after that he went down hill and was never as creative as he once was.
I always prefered Adler to Sorum in GNR, but Sorum is good in his own right.
Forgot to mension the Best one handed drummer in the world from Def Leppard - Rick Allen.
I was going to say Ringo Starr but not the best drummer ever, but after all he was part of a great band of their era and should get credit for that. Glad to see the name of the late KISS drummer, it was sad that he died of cancer as he was one of the better drummers KISS had.
Suprised no one mensioned Phil Collins of Genisis, not my cup of tea but a success in his own right, but more for his songs than his drumming in his solo stuff.
Rikki Rocket of Poison is some one I admired, not many people like them because of there image but the music was cool, Rikki did a great job on drums.
Will Calhoun of Rock band Living Colour was unique as not many black american drummers do this style of music and a breath of fresh air to see a creative style. Singer of the band corey glover was the brother of actor Danny Glover.
I must also say the drummer of a lesser known band named Tyketto now Vaughn - Michael Clayton is brilliant, I've seen him live loads of times. The band have gone through many musicians but only the drummer and the singer have stuck it out.
Tesla drummer Troy Luccketta was awsome, they were also one of the first to experiment with the unplugged stuff before it became popular by MTV. Five man acoustic jam was a cool album. To hear Troy's drumming at its best - some of the early Tesla albums were brilliant.

Re: Best Drummers
You lads are seriously mad.
There's only one man for the award and that's Alan "Reni" Wren from the Stone Roses.
Go and download the tune "Fools Fold" and then put all your mad choices firmly to bed!

Now I dont normally get involved in all this malarky, cos it,s close to home.
but on this one and only occasion, Alex-Van-Halen, and Ian Pace are the men, the rest are pretenders, there also thoroughly decent chaps.

Re: Alex Van Halen
Alex is a slag, plain and simple....he's only in the band because of his seriously talented brother Edward. I saw Alex in 1984 at Castle Donington and his drum solo was bollocks. Was VERY voacal in vetoing Diamond Dave Lee Roth's return to the band in favour of Gary Cherone form poncy US lightweights, Extreme.
