Much spending
Re: Much spending
you wouldn't support one of the minnows hailing from scotlands 'city of losers' by any chance?
Re: Much spending
You have to understand the context, Woodgnome. Scotland is, population-wise about an eleventh the size of England, yet we still feel we can compete with the bigger English sides. We have two gargantuan sides who can fill their stadiums (60,000 and about 50,000) week in week out, and still have people wanting in. The "loser cities?" Fair point. But how much worse for a team in the central belt watching its citizens leaving in busloads for Weegie central for:
a) Sectarian reasons
b) Glory-hunting reasons
c) Some long-forgotten family tradition (We've always supported Rangers/ Celtic).
Much mirth is to be had, and has been had on this forum, about the home counties set who provide a large amount of Manchester United's support. Well, what about the Stornoway True Blues, or the Celtic faithful who travel from the Republic of Ireland?
There's a great bit in Iain Banks' last book where the narrator, a Clydebank fan, is having a go at a Rangers supporter saying that he is more grounded in reality. Due to his low expectations, he can more easily cope with the failures of the national team than some person who expects his side to win everything.
Whatever Scotland's big two may say, their support base is still largely locked in religious bigotry. I'm with Onan----send them south (if the Premiership will have them) and watch them struggle with real life.

West Aukland in County Durham is what you mean Onan. Beat Juventus in 1910 in the 'first World Cup' - The Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy.
They retained it the following year, but had to sell the trophy to meet the costs involved with travelling.

Re: Much spending
No, not in S56 mode---you kept to the point, didn't mention that Ray Davies once wrote a song about someplace that rhymed with West Auckland, and didn't mention Sue once.
