Yes indeed, The Clash (Minus sacked guitarist Mick Jones) DID do gigs for CND rallies and Striking Miners benefits.
One of Joe Strummers last gigs was in Acton and ALL proceeds went to striking Firemen. VERY famous show as Mick Jones joined him on stage for 3 belters.
