Politics in general

Post by Bill Malone »

Sorry to point out the obvious but...
Some of us are complaining about Labour banning fox hunting and supporting a war in Iraq.
Some of us have complained about Tories poll tax and stopping mil in schools.

It's very obvious no other party will ever get into power as their current support is so small. And it's very obvious that the country will not change it's mind about wither voting red or blue because we're all too stuck in our ways.

Although most are fine upstanding people, politicians from all parties are occasionally shown to be corrupt, sleaze-ridden, spinners, cheaters, liars, and theives. So basically either we EXCEPT a government is going to screw up occasionally or we just all stop voting for anyone.

Which will it be?

Ie: Complaining about politicions on an (admittedly) off topic forum based on a site about British porn stars isn't going to do much good in the long run except wear your keyboard out.

Given the 35% turnout last night at Brent, it seems stopping voting is the preferred option. or electing a LIb-Dem, which amounts to much the same thing.
Of course, some (autocratic) Governments like low turnouts: but not TOO low- they need a mandate, too.

I think we all accepted that Government's screw up every so often a long time ago. 'New Labour' tried to present itself as infallible and look where it's ended.

Nothing wrong with complaining, Bill, as long as it's heard by those you're complaing about. One of the dangers of apathy is that the more aware a Government is of how little people actually care, the more likely they are to do as they please.

And the main things wrong with what is (sorry Lib-Dems) basically a two-party system is that you need a strong opposition and a relatively small majority to keep the Government focused.
