If it's any consolation, ID, I have a relative who used to service pc's and he said much the same thing regarding porn. Only CP causes concern. These guys really have seen it all and never mention it. They only deal with what the problem is.

thanks for writing Last Word, i really appreciate it, sadly my parents dont quite see it that way. i dont think they realise that normal porn is used and abused by all types of ppl...unfortunately she wont send the laptop back until ive completely cleared the comp of it...i did but then she did that XP thing of "system restore" and it all comes back ...she wants there to be no trace...so i dunno what next really. im online now cos the screen is in massive letters like the wrong format...it fucked up lol...i am 100% completely passionately against CP...i am pleased to be able to say ive never seen any pictures of them and want to keep it that way, a long way down the list of reasons why its so bad - the fact its "pornography" taints everything else....how do they find CP on comps then? presumably they would have to go thro EVERY picture on there to find one?

If you're at the stage where you can't send it back, then perhaps you could consider clearing your laptop of any pics then taking it to one of the smaller PC maintenance shops that spring up here and there, rather than the intimidating likes of PC World. They should be able to look at it and give you an idea of what's up and what could be done next, without actually taking it off you. Check with the local papers/yellow pages.

How do they find CP on comps then? "They" find it much more easily if you've handed over your credit card details to view it first is the way it seems to work, I think.

oic but gary glitter types are because they left pictures on their computers right?....ive moved all my porn onto cds...but ive got like 2GB of music (really important to me) and they arent realy copying to disc ne more in safe mode or on this fucked up version !!
i think my guarantee ends in nov apparently so ive nearly had this comp a year...i paid for 3 years extra on it but mum said that never worked or something....but she reckons theyll want to completely replace the whole machine as im pretty sure that its the graphics card...also the A Drive never worked (dont get me started) lol apart from that ...its the first Sony thing thats gone wrong for me in my life as i only buy sony cos they are reliable hehe...also...we tried to System Restore and that took me back to couple days ago when i had all my porn etc on the comp! which is no good cos the shop can do that too!! if i completely restore windows from the cds will it get rid of EVERYTHING, i want completely clear before i return the machine....?

it sounds like a hardware problem - your lcd display is knackered
cost not worth fixing - on a laptop the screen display is one of the most expensive items

if you got a removable drive then get a new laptop

If by 'restore' you mean re-install then yes, it should. It certainly did with me after the DLL. error nightmare I had a while ago. Then send it back and stop fretting - it's in the 'lap' of the gods now.

lol thanks guys, its just it cost 1800 and its pretty important to me! and im stressing like fuck lol. it should be fine for the guarantee but we'll find out over the weekend gulp. i think ive finally got everything off the comp that i need...took 2 fucking days!....euck....damn thing...u reckon theyll just replace it no questions asked (within reason obv) ?!

When my computer shit itself a year ago I had 15,000 pics of varying degrees of Adult porn

All the IBM techs did was erase everything replace the broken parts and delivered it back with a hardrive 10 times bigger for free.Maybe this was because of the porn but I doubt it

Even if I had of been able to erase all the porn up to the standards that
the likes of the Pentagon use,my surfing tracks would still be set in concrete in my ISPs Log.

I'd take your computer back and ask them to try and save your Music files
after you've run something like Window Washer/Evidence Eliminator to erase all traces of the porn(for your Mothers sake-paranoia isn't pretty)
