You'll be lucky to get anything more than a book of 6x1st class stamps. I have had several packages go missing, including one to a regular poster here, and I get nothing more than a letter of apology and a book of stamps, despite being entitled to 100xprice of stamp, ie 27p x 100 = ?27.00. It stinks!

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

Surely it is better to be employed even on their pay than to be unemployed and walking the streets?.

Is that a job application?
Or a not very funny joke?

hmmm!! some intresting points from all......

Well, being a postie myself I kinda agree with what many of you have to say, I've never done delivery so can't speak fo them as I work in doors.

Magoo was spot on about Casual staff, I think this has become a problem, as not enough training is given to these causual staff, they are thrown in the deep end and are expected to sort letters, and parcels etc... and the managers are trying to make cut backs and trying to save hours to save money so not enough time is spent helping the causal staff becoming good sorters.....I was trained to read the address in full from the top of the address right down to the postcode so that it reaches its correct destination, the causual sorters just read the post codes and expect the letter to be right. Its not all interly there fault, We get many wrong post coded letters coming in and we do the best we can to get them sent to the right place, but the causuals are not trained enough to be dealing with all that. As a postie I to have had letters and parcels gone missing which should have been sent to me.....but I can't speak for all the offices in Royal Mail as some are better than others, It seems to be doom and gloom with people having to worry about wage rises, the post office is not what it used to be. It used to be good when I started which wasn't that long ago, but when the big boses decided to change the name and the style of doing bussiness, everything went down hill. but its not over yet. It might be easy to say sack the lot...but the new lot won't make it any better, it could get worse...

As for recorded Delivery/Special Delivery, this is usualy tracked by Bar code so these items should not be getting lost as these items are separated from the normal mail.......on many occasions, if not sealed properly items do fall out, the items should be salvaged by the PO and sent in a sealed bag so that it at least gets to were it should be sent, which is what happens at most offices. A friend of mine in London sent some important stuff Special delivery, and some how they managed to lose it...So as you can see its not all perfect........ but they try there best, which some times is just not good enough.

I've been on my hols so I haven't got the foggiest if we are going on strike or not? I know London is but don't know about the rest of the UK...
