.... so who ARE they????? The ones who couldn't keep their pants up I mean!..... but there are others..... like...
I see old Rio has got done for failing to turn up at a drugs test. An easy slip of mind of course. Especially when drugs play no part in sport whatsoever, and that he wasn't reminded about it only a short time beforehand. .... and of course, he was moving house.... can just see him with the tea chests.
Oh what a bloody shame.
I can just imagine the scenario..... rich footy player.... can't be arsed to show up as directed, but other other players do.... but I'M moving house.. I'll get away with it..
...just as they seem to do with speeding tickets.... 'being chased by someone'..... 'forgot to sign the notice...' Bollocks. Good ( expensive)lawyer
and then we have the Woodgate who is not a thug court case. Bowyer is a nice chap too.
Massively over paid. Celebrity status. Rich. Stupid. Think they are above it all...... but in reality..... they are as think as pig shit and make no massive contribution to the well being of the realm.
We peasentry obey the law.
Why shouldn't they.
But then, if they all go to jail... who would play footy for Eng-er-land?? And wouldn't the sale of poser type cars drop off....?
SAd isn't it.
There is some quote which I can't find at the moment about the fall of the Roman Empire, which basically says that society has had it when the celebs/sportsfolk are worshipped as gods.
They think they are.
Good job there are more Heathens about these days!!!
Hugs as ever
SID xx

Re: Naughty Footballers
Are they overpaid?
IMO-No....they generate the revenue so its only fair that they receive a slice...if that happens to be 1000s of pounds per week/match so be it
If the industry generates that kind of revenue then why shouldn't they receive their fair share...unlike other industries professional atheletes have a very small time to earn a living and build a nest egg-the lucky ones might span 20 years but I bet the average is more like 10 years. So the seemingly high wages can't really be compared to someone who works for 40/50 years IMHO
Mix young largely uneducated men who know only football with fame and money and surprise surprise you have egos out of control & misbehaving
I bet the statistics will show that soccer players as a whole commit no more or less crimes than the general public. It just that the media scrutiny always brings Celebs to our attention
I agree there will be deals made by the crown prosecutor but that isn't just for celeb cases
cheers

Re: Naughty Footballers
in my opinion they are very much overpayed, take note buttsie how many clubs are in large debt, must be 99% the other 1% being that chinese sportswear manufacturer aka Man. Utd, the reason they are in debt, because of the massively inflated wages they pay out, pure and simple as that, I basically blame sky television for pumping so much money into the game in the first place, if sky ever went bust where would football be?? look at Celtic for example who do not have the luxury of the sky money, play to 60,000 every home game, reach a European Final, basically sign no players and still lose ?8m in that year, you do the sums to see where the money goes.
Some of these players have so much cash and get so much praise that they have actually no grasp of reality at all.

PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

There is no doubt that the TV rights has distorted the revenue base
and many clubs have tried to use this cash cow to buy quick success-empire building idiots IMHO
I can't remember the name of the club but they are in Div 1 and run their club sensibly and turn a profit every year.Never going to win anything but neither will they go bankrupt.
Given how few trophies there are to be won each season it doesn't make a lot of sense to gamble by borrowing huge sums to try and secure success
I blame the clubs for their present position
Many clubs should do what Leeds did to Hasselbaink a few years back when he was asking for a ludicrous payrise after a stellar scoring season;to take a hike
Not many will though
cheers

Re: Naughty Footballers
Yeah, well, moral Leeds also ostracised the guy who had the cheek to give evidence against Bowyer and Woodgate, and sent out a great message about how seriously it took allegations of racist assault by pulling them back into the team as soon as was possible.
How much of that was down to David O'Leary I don't know, but I suspect it was the wallets in the boardroom that had the final say.
The people's game is long gone. It's now just business.

Re: Naughty Footballers
There's a general rule of thumb which says if a business is paying out more than 55% of its turnover in wages, it's either in trouble of going to be in trouble. It think only one premiership club met this target, with most falling in the 80-95% bracket, and one was running at 115%
So, I have no problem with people being paid what they're worth, but they above figures seem to say they're not worth it.

Re: Naughty Footballers
True but then the players don't have the final say as to how much they get paid...have they?
Small to medium Clubs that chase success at any price are asking for trouble IMO
Soccer doesn't seem to adhere to best business practices when it comes to debt to income for some unknown reason
cheers
