Sergie Jacques -great photographer

Post by Deano! »

For me, the golden age of porno mags ( high class art debate here ! ) was the eighties when Men Only and Club used to constantly amaze me with the girls and the quality of the photos. One photographer in particular that always seemed to capture the most heart-breakingly gorgeous women in the most fantastic settings was Sergie Jacques. But I haven't noticed anything with his name on it for ages. I still see names like Suze Randall, Jack Harrison, Steve Hicks, Ron Vogel etc. Wonder where Sergie is these days ?

I'm actually looking at a Serge Jacques set at the moment (one of the advantages of working for a publisher of top shelf mags, you have access to every mag we've ever published, going right back ? in the case of Knave & Fiesta ? to the late 1960s).

And you're right, Serge did produce some great photography. No idea what he's doing now, but starting in January we'll be having a retro porn feature every month in Knave, highlighting some of the girls from yesteryear and also adverts for some very dodgy films and books ??it's amazing what you could get away with back then!

When you say its amazing what you could get away with back then, I wonder if you're refering to the way underage girls were often mentioned in stories and cartoons ? I have some ancient copies of Mayfair ( about 1971 or 72 ) and there are a quite a few bits where girls of 14 or 15 are described. There is even an article about the age of conscent which predicts it will be abolished altogether probably by the late seventies !

It looks extra strange when you consider that the rest of the old Mayfair magazine was written in that oh-so-propper upper class art critic style, and the actual rude pictures were so tame you can see far more on late night TV these days.
