Yeah, the intoduced rainbows and blueys out-competed the New Zealand galaxiids (or southern trouts), rendering an entire unique species-flock extinct: about 20-odd species. Only a couple now survive, in Tassie, the Cape and Patagonia.
All for a bit of sport. Bet they don't mention that in the tourist brochures.
Way to go, Humanity............

We in Australia can do better than that

More extinct species than any other continent bar none

I predict in another fifty years we humans will be roasted/eaten alive by the introduced Fire Ant,stung to death by the European Wasp and finally pissed on by the Cane Toad

Apart from a few private Earth Sanctuaries being set up by Dr Walmsley we don't give a fig newton it would seem

Now you've run out of species to eradicate, it seems that the South Americans will overtake you with their wonderful eco-friendly logging, etc....one species every day, wasn't it?
What galls me about the Kiwis is that they make such a big deal out of being Green.

South America is understandable-the Third World being held to ransom by the WTO,World Bank & Mcdonalds...repeating Australias stupidity all over again...chopping down forests for the cattle

Every Country will have made some species extinct-its what us humans do
.....knowingly of course......mans answer is always to kill when ever there is a conflict between us and them

Logging is the best.Yes trees grow back but once habitat disappears is lost species start perishing

I think a few people in the bushfires in the US of A are getting the same treatment as we speak...not a nice feeling but thats what we've been dishing out to other species for centuries

I agree with you jj. NZ is greener than many countries but if you saw the number of SUVs driving around Wellington you would think that there were no surfaced roads in the city. A kiwi comedian, Mike King, said recently that there are now car dirtiers where you take your vehicle to have mud sprayed on it.
The Government doesn't help. They have just lifted a moratorium on experimental plantings of GE crops although 68% of the population are against it. Marvellous place to conduct trials: if anything goes wrong, we are thousands of miles from anywhere so quarantine is no problem.
