well...time to bring this one back up again lol....went to see it last night with low expectations and have to say ive never seen such a reaction from a cinema, ppl were jumping and whining cos it was pretty full on....i dont even kno how it managed it but everyone had a lotta adrenaline going around and pumping hearts. i think it was the reality of it, it genuinely felt pretty real to watch and was uncomfrtable to see. i got the original 4 years ago when i was 16 and thought it was a bit shit....but this version had a lot of variations on the originals plot and so it almost felt like a dif film...id like to kno what other ppl thought because as a hardcore horror film watcher ive never been scared (who i went with hadnt either) but this was pretty much it..making the chase scenes long but not too long so that ur squirming in ur seat.....the chainsaw/ppl etc was all v.believable somehow....weird to think the films prob getting a lot of critical panning cos i thought it was tres good

and jessica biels rather nice too.....

wtf how can u say that, are u a 1974 purist or something...cos that was a prettty lame film....least this one was exciting and for some weird reason i actually cared about the characters and wanted them to get away even tho it was obv only erin would....there were a few loopholes in the plot but in the cinema it all rolled together pretty well and was all quite horrific i thought....its gotta be ur worst nightmare...middle of nowhere, everyone is against u, no escape and the torture :S eek....tez if u could elaborate thatd be good...ta

I thought it was quite a good horror movie, like you said it kept the heart rate up and had plenty of gore and scares. And yes Jessica Biel is well fit. What a body! ;o)

Saw this last night, ID. Myself? Pretty good, and Nispel can do interesting things with light/shade and composition. One to watch, perhaps. A blatant commercial venture, of course, but solid saturday night fare, all the same. I was no fan of the original, mind. Better half? 'Garbage - and not even scary garbage.' Looks like I'll be sitting through Seabiscuit then.

Ok Ok Ok lets cut the crap here US horror movies are pretty much on the whole utter shite with the odd notable exception.

You want to be scared? The real scary stuff, the stuff that makes your hair stand on end and your skin crawl is the contemporary Japanese horror films. Just check out The Ring, Audition and Dark Waters to name but a few and see what I mean.

US horror films exist primarily to make you jump with shock effects and make you recoil at unsightly special effects make up! These Japanese films rely on atmosphere and building tension and they're so much more effective for it - leaving images that stay with you long after you've finished watching.

The occasional US film that does work is the exception not the rule!!

My subject if I recall rightly was scary movies and bearing in mind everything previous to that comment you highlighted was about horror films I would hazard a guess that I may well have been talking about........................horror films maybe?

japanese films would prob be ok but i LIKE TO UNDERSTAND WHATS FUCKING HAPPENING!!! im 20 yrs old so im bound to find new/er films easier to relate to as its based around the world i kno.....the 70s were a lil harder cos its a dif world...what i was trying to say about the TCM remake was that for like the first time ever i genuinely felt sympathy for the characters and liked them all (cept pepper...was indifferent for her)and i genuinely felt very sorry for themandwanted them to survive...which is what made the film harder to watch that voirtually ne other horror.....

You may well be 20 years old but the 3 films I mentioned were all released in the past 3 years so unless you're especially babyfaced I that if you searched them out even you could have seen them.

As for them being in a foreign language , have you ever heard of something called subtitles? I think you'll find that distributors are unlikely to put out a film in a country which doesn't speak the language without subtitles.

Common sense, it's a wonderful thing!
