Well you will all of heard Sherly Crows cover of 'The First Cut Is The Deepest' which has also been done by Cat Stevens & Rod Stewart but does any one know which song has had the most covers done?
Has anyone got a fav cover or some real shockers?
I heard a cover of a song the other day & the performer had totally murdered it!! It was so bad I've forgotten what the song was!
Quite like Sherly's & Rod's versions of 'First Cut...' but not so sure about Cat's!

Actually it is 'Yesterday' (Beatles/McCartney) that has had the most recordings of any song.
And Cat Stevens wrote 'The first cut is the depest'.

I have heard that "Without You" originally sung by Nilsson(1972), written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans (half of Badfinger) was one of the most covered.

Rod-awful
Come to think of it, R. Stewart himself seems to have spent a large part of his career cheerfully garotting innocent songs using nothing but his vocal cords. Highlights include a version of Ruby Tuesday too awful for words and a version of Shotgun Wedding that put a shotgun firmly in mind.
The best cover I've heard is Ring of Fire by Wall of Voodoo.
