Ed Wood

Post by Ace »

One of the greatest films made in the past 10 years gets a VERY welcome showing tomorrow night on BBC2 at 1.00am (Theoretically Sunday)
I know Woodgnome also rates this film highly, so do yerselves a favour and set yer videos. Well worth a night in for, even if to see Sarah Jessica Parker NOT acting like a slut for a change.

5 stars..........no contest

i'm not an admirer of tim burton, by any means (sleepy hollow? mars attacks!? puhleeze!!) but this one actually hangs together v. nicely and even our johnny gets it, right for once (sorry, ace).

It was probably a better film about its subject than he could have made himself!!!!!!!
By the way, films by Alan Smithee are usually a film disowned by their original directors who want their names removed from the credits.

Try "Nick of Time" of 1995 directed and produced by John Badham. Hope this is the one you are thinking about.

name change

Post by Terry May »

Apparantly the Alan Smithee moniker is going to be changed to something else now for the very reason that everyone knows that the real director wanted his name removed from the particular film.

Although ironically there is a film called, 'An Alan Smithee film' with Eric Idle written by Joe Estaurhaus and featruing various famous face cameos (Stallone etc). With a bizarre twist the director of it was so unhappy with it that he asked for his name to be replaced by the now infamous Alan Smithee. Oh and it's not that good a film anyway

Depp and Walken also appeared in Sleepy Hollow. Walken was the headless Horseman.
Nick of Time is very under-rated. One of the only 'real time' films Ive seen. Real Time is 'as you watch it' with no digressing or jumping to another scene. A bit like 'Royale Family' y'know, where evrything happens as you watch it.
