IMHO by far the best actress of her generation.
Other Hollywood stars use to complain about her that she used to get all the major female lead roles that were on offer. & then started calling her "la Streep".
She has been nominated 13 times for the Oscars but only won twice, for "Kramer v Kramer" & "Sophie's Choice".
If only more acting types concentrated on their craft , rather than being "Moviestars", there would be a lot more "Quality" films to watch.

You forget that 'quality' films need to be written & funded before acting can commence. And only a tiny minority of actors - Streep being one, I imagine - are actually in the position to refuse work.

Did Meryl get one for best supporting actress in Deerhunter?
Without doubt the best in years, and by all accounts, a lady who NEVER has let stardom get to her, she does her own housework and shopping and attended her kids PTA meetings.
The River film S56 mentioned is so-so, but Sophies Choice, Out of Africa, French Lieutenants Women are classics.
