was well ripping us motorists off with excessive fuel duty - ours is the dearest in the eu, and the only one where diesel is dearer than petrol; diesel being about a third cheaper in the rest of eu - ever increasing road tax & congession charges, because the powers that be are too thick to find a sensible solution.
we now get private road makers - who will make a shed load off money - adding to the cost, where there must be some going to the government, or bungs to those in power.
and the dvlc/police stealing your car 'legally' if they find it without a tax disc.
toll motorway
Re: toll motorway
A 'sensible solution'?
What, like radically restricting car-usage? And using motoring taxes to make public transport better, instead of building MORE (immediately-gridlocked)bloody roads?
That's do for starters.

Re: toll motorway
I might be missing something here but the French have a motorway toll system (autoroute peage) as does a large part of Europe. Their non-toll roads are generally superb and suffer a lot less congestion. Mind you, it's a bigger country................

Re: toll motorway
You must be referring to the French Farmers...they seem to cause the most traffic congestion when their Governmnet hand outs are threatened

Re: toll motorway
......try getting across Paris at 5 p.m. Especially if you're on foot..........
The autoroutes are superb, mainly because western Europe has at least attempted to think logically about financing and integrating transport.
Whereas we've got..........John Prescott.

Re: toll motorway
It's safer by foot than car.........and the metro though busy at that time of day does not have the overcrowding of the Tube.
But if it's a real pain trying to get home you could always stop off for some food at Bofinger on the rue de Bastille, nice and central. It's still the best bistro in Paris and for less than ?20 you can eat a wonderful 4-courser from the prix fixe menu including half a bottle of wine.
Tempting isn't it ? If only to get away from Two Jags and Darling Alistair.

Re: toll motorway
...and the Metro certainly smells nicer: whatever became of LU's plan to 'freshen' the Underground?
You're quite wrong: I deeply love and respect our politicians..........
Now, could you please loosen my straitjacket?
